Public Spaces
Our experience in the development of park and recreational space is extensive. We enjoy contributing to the stewardship of our public and common spaces while enhancing their safety and quality.
University of Illinois at Chicago- Gateway Plaza and Skyspace
The Skyspace, designed by James Turrell, is a freestanding enclosed elliptical chamber. From inside the skyspace, one can view the changing sky through an opening in the roof. Annular rings of neon near the opening constantly change with the ambient light.
Turrell’s work, in his own words, “is about space and the light that inhabits it. It is about how you confront that space and plumb it. It is about your seeing”.
Weber Consultants helped to translate that vision into a biddable, constructable project utilizing theatrical lighting control, neon, and LED sources.
A waterwall fountain cascades along the Skyspace exterior and an adjacent Plaza fountain is illuminated by submerged, programmed, LED light fixtures.
The Plaza itself is delineated with blue and white programmed LED in-ground fixtures.
63rd Street Beach House
Fountain Court Fountain
An historic beach house, built in the 1920s, returns.
As a consultant to Wolff Clements Associates, we received the American Society of Landscape Architects Honor Award for the redesign of the Fountain Court and Town Square Court. A new lighting system and interactive fountain were key elements of the renovation.

Gold Star Families Memorial and Park
Between Soldier Field and Burnham Harbor is a five acre park and memorial to honor and remember fallen Chicago Police Officers. A candlelight vigil held on May 2, 2006 marked the groundbreaking ceremony for the site. Weber Consultants was proud to be part of the design team, with responsibilities for the lighting, electrical, and fountain designs.
